The Republic of Uganda is a landlocked state between Sudan in the north, Kenya in the east, Tanzania, Rwanda in the south, and Congo-Kinshasa in the west. Uganda covers an area of 241,038 km². Uganda was once the place of choice for safaris, but following the political unrest that shook the country nearly half a century ago, the tourist appeal of the country ended. Today Uganda merilly plays its cards in the tourist economy. This country offers a variety of landscapes ranging from snowy mountains to the nearly impenetrable forest of Bwindi where the mountain gorillas live up to the Great Lakes District. Kibale National Park is one of the best places in Africa to see chimpanzees in their natural environment. It is possible to do kayaking on the Nile.
