He was raised in The Gambia and went to school in Togo and the U.K. He’s a social entrepreneur, Pan-Africanist, vegetarian, environmentalist, youth mentor and Executive Director of Kailend. is a dynamic and forward thinking NGO headquartered in Lomé, Togo; they work to empower low income earning women and at-risk youth through education and skills training programs and always with sustainability in mind. Though it can be hard work, their volunteers also get to enjoy all that Lomé and Togo has to offer. Here are some of their favourite spots to unwind!
L’Annexe is a unique garden restaurant in Lomé with authentic wood fired oven pizzas and family influences in recipes and service, which gives it a personal touch. There’s also a great live band on weekends.

O Lodge is a great lakeside resort located 30 km (45 min drive) out of Lomé city centre, heading in the direction of the Togo – Benin border. The resort is right at the edge of Lake Togo and has numerous attractions for children and adults including, 3 swimming pools and speed water slides. They also provide water sports and sailing equipment like catamarans, kayaks and pedal boats, all with unlimited use once you pay the entrance fee of 5.000 CFA, which covers swimming and use of equipment.

Located just under 20 minutes drive from the city center, Pure Plage is a great setting to get some rest and relaxation along the Atlantic ocean coastline. You can enjoy snacks on the beach or gourmet meals in their bar-restaurant under an exotic hut. You can go alone or as a group and enjoy sports (volleyball/football/boules), traditional drummers and stilt walkers who walk up and down the beach entertaining guests. In the evenings the vibe changes to a chilled lounge feel with great coloured lighting and music.

Kpalimé is a town in southwest Togo. It lies in the Plateaux Region, surrounded by coffee and cocoa plantations. Our volunteers usually combine multiple site visits and activities to make the most of the weekend, including, mountain hikes, swimming in rivers and waterfalls pools, educational forest treks with local guides and visiting the artisanal market.
Espace Viva is the first Eco-responsible leisure centre in Lomé, Togo. It’s one of the first buildings in Lomé built using mostly recycled materials and also promotes a variety of made in Togo products. During the week you can enjoy a live band with different guest artists, yoga classes, movie nights and much more. Profits from Espace Viva contribute to supporting local NGO’s and community development projects.
