Burundi is a country of Africa highland located on the dividing line of the waters of the Congo and the Nile, in the heart of the Great Lakes region. Of all the neighboring countries, Rwanda remains the closest to Burundi because both countries share geographic, human and historical identities besides many linguistic characteristics. The country is bordered to the west by Lake Tanganyika and, with the exception of small Rwanda which only has 26,000 km², Burundi is surrounded by huge countries including Tanzania to the east and southeast, and especially to the west by the Congo – Kinshasa. Burundi has vast resources for Fauna and Flora, however, today Burundi’s tourism industry is underdeveloped. Ecotourism is one of the main tourist attraction in Burundi. The Kibira National Park, Rurubu River and Lake Tanganyika are considered the main natural habitats for wildlife. There are also many game lakes such as Rwihinda nature reserve of the lakes. In 2014, the Burundian drum dance was mentioned on the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO. There is no UNESCO World Heritage site recognized in Burundi, but there are 10 sites that are on the tentative list of UNESCO. These 10 sites include Gishora, Mugamba, Muramvya, Gasumo (the southernmost source of the Nile), Lake Nature Reserve Rwihinda, Lake Tanganyika, the Rusizi National Park, National Kibira Park, National Park Ruvubu and falls Kagera.
